Who We Are - Texas Coffee Traders

       ®

Late one rainy night ......In 1981, R.C. Beall was sitting in an all night diner in the beautiful Glacier  Park area of Montana having a cup of the worst coffee and pondering how to make a living in this incredible part of the world.  Could roasting and selling a great cup of coffee be the answer?   As fate would have it, R.C. discovered an old roaster and five bags of green coffee in a barn near Whitefish, Montana.    He bought the roaster and began the journey of learning how to roast coffee to bring out the best characteristics of the different beans.  Writing the results of each roast  in spiral notebooks and learning which temperatures brought out the best tastes for the different variety of beans his hobby soon became his passion.  Montana Coffee Traders has grown over the years to include the Coffee Traders Cafe in Kalispell, Montana, a Montana Coffee Traders in downtown Whitefish and Colombia Falls, as well as the original roaster and store on Highway 93 South in Whitefish, Montana.

We still  roast our coffees using these recipes and our passion for roasting and selling the very best coffee the world has to offer remains our mission.  Drop by for a visit and you will be immersed in the smells and tastes of freshly roasted coffee.

R.C. Doing "Tractor Work" in Montana

In 1994, R.C. traveled to Austin, Texas to open a Texas Coffee Traders.  Texas offered a good location for shipping fresh coffee to accounts that were too far away from Montana to guarantee freshness and it brought him back to his home state where he could be closer to his family.  As it turned out it also gave him the opportunity to reconnect with an old friend from high school.  Beth and R.C. were married in October of 1994.

Beth Beall joined the Coffee Traders team in 1994 by participating in the start up and ultimately becoming President of Texas Coffee Traders.

Texas Coffee Traders is committed to Fair Trade on both sides of the border.   We pay a premium on our coffee so the the growers are paid a fair wage in their home country and here at home we pay our employees a living wage as well as providing full health, dental insurance and offering a 401k program.   The men and women who come together across thousands of miles to produce one fine cup of coffee work hard to do so and we believe in rewarding that spirit of performance.

The proceeds generated at Texas Coffee Traders go to an Austin based workforce.  Texas Coffee Traders is a family business, a family that is happy to call it's home Austin, Texas.  Texas Coffee Traders supports a variety of local events, charities and programs, from the Cowboy Breakfast (where you'll always find at least one member of the family at 4 a.m. beginning to brew up for the cowboys) to the Trail of Lights, Lady Bird's legacy of highways beautification through our "Bluebonnet Blend" to working with the homeless of our city.

Nothing makes us more proud than being able to provide you the best cup of coffee in Texas and when we can do that and know that we are helping out our growers, our employees and our city, well that just gives us a nice feeling.  Hope you come by sometime to see what we're all about here.
